Howdy Carlos,
Welcome to the 4th email of the CoinSutra Crypto education series.
One question that I'm most often asked is:
Where should I store my Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies?
A lot of users don't do ample research. They download random wallets from Android/iOS store and feel they have made a safe choice.
Well, that's not the right thing to do, especially when we all know that you are responsible for the safety of your cryptocurrencies. If your Bitcoins, Ethereum or other coins are hacked, even the cyber cell can't help.
So, the most important thing is to use a wallet which lets you control the private key. The private key or seed key which only you know about and is not stored on your phone or computer or anywhere digitally.
Also, if you are storing Bitcoins for a longer period (1 month and above), do not keep it on an exchange.
So what's the solution?
Hardware wallets
These are the specialized devices that you can use to store your cryptocurrencies. When you set up any of the below-listed hardware wallets for the first time, it will give you 24 words (seed words) which you should write down on a piece of paper or use Cryptosteel.
The best part about the hardware wallet is they are unhackable and private keys never leave the device, thus making your coins safe and secure. They are also popularly known as cold storage devices.
Here are two that we use and recommend:
- Ledger Nano S (My first choice)
- Trezor Model T
Mobile Wallets:
If you plan to spend your cryptos regularly, using a mobile wallet is a good idea. Just one rule here: Keep a small number of coins ONLY. I usually keep less than $500 worth of coins here and pay whenever required.
Here are a few recommended once:
Both the wallets are available for Android as well as iOS. Since mobile phones are easy to hack, I urge you to not keep a huge sum of coins here.
Useful resources:
Here I have compiled a list of useful resources that will help you learn everything about Crypto wallets.

- Different types of Crypto wallets that you should know about
Well, that's all for now. Go ahead and set up your first wallet. If you are still keeping your coins on an exchange, move it to a hardware wallet and have a peaceful night's sleep.
I will see you in the next email with another useful tip.
Ta Da!
