Localbitcoins Venezuelan Volume Explodes to All-time High

The amount of Bitcoin traded by Venezuelans via the LocalBitcoins has reached an all time high.

The news comes in the wake of announcement by the government on restrictions on trading cryptocurrencies by Venezuelan citizens.

One Twitter user highlighted that Localbitcoin in Venezuela is currently trading at volumes 157-times that of its largest stock exchange.

History of Cryptography

Cryptography is the science of writing codes and ciphers for secure communication, representing one of the fundamental technology of which cryptocurrency is built upon.

The oldest form of cryptography was found in the tomb of an ancient Egyptian Chief, who lived nearly 4000 years ago.

In fact, one of the most well known ancient cryptography was perhaps the Caesar cipher, which is done by shifting some of the letters in the message up or down a few orders in the Latin Alphabet.

During the Middle ages, Al-Kindi, an Arab mathematician, found a way to decode encryption. Effectively making him the first code cracker.

This warranted the field cryptography to advance even further in order to remain useful.

Perhaps the first machine aided cryptography was the Nazi-invented Enigma machine, arguably causing the birth of the computer when Allied forces hired Alan Turing to figure out a way to crack the Enigma machine.

With the rise of computers, cryptography became vastly more advanced than it was in the analog era.

Several advanced cryptographic techniques, including hash functions, public key cryptography (asymmetric cryptography), and digital signatures were created and improved by scientists and hobbyists alike.

Which paved the way for Bitcoin, the first cryptocurrency.
