📝 Japan Grants Crypto Exchange License to Messaging Giant LINE

Japanese tech giant LINE has obtained a crypto exchange operating license from Japan's financial regulator.

The trading platform, to be dubbed BITMAX, will enable Line's 80 million users in Japan to buy and sell multiple major cryptocurrencies.

LINE counts 187 million global users monthly, with an estimated 50 million users registered its mobile payment service, LINE Pay.

💰 Binance Launches US Dollar-Backed Crypto Stablecoin

Binance announced that the New York Department of Financial Services (NYDFS) had approved the launch of Binance's USD stablecoin.

The stablecoin is launched in partnership with Paxos Standard (PAX) who will act as custodian.

The stablecoin will be up for direct purchase and redemption on the Paxos platform, as well as for trading on Binance.com later this month.

Paxos has also launched a gold-backed stablecoin in which each token will worth the same as an ounce of gold.

🐞 Cryptomining Malware Targets Back-to-School Students With Fake Textbooks

Kaspersky has identified a new malware that has taken root in multiple sites where pirated textbooks can be downloaded.

The malware masquerades as a book or essay packed in a .exe file which allows the hacker an access to implant other malware - in this case, a cryptojacker.

Kaspersky saw "233,000 cases" of malicious essays and "122,000 attacks by malware that was disguised as textbooks."
