Howdy Carlos,
This is important!
If you are an existing BitMex user, then your security is at risk. And, if you are not, you will learn how a great exchange could go bad.
This security flaw would ensure you safeguard your crypto investment in the future.
What happened with BitMex?
Bitmex is a popular margin trading exchange and the other day, they emailed all their users and kept all the emails in cc rather than bcc.
That means the users who have an account with Bitmex is now publicly available. All these users are now a possible target for hackers.
Do you feel the pain of all these users?
Bitmex has officially acknowledged and made statement on this and taking steps to minimize the damage:
Like it or not, Bitmex as a business may continue growing due to the increased growth of cryptocurrency ecosystem.
However, because of this serious mistake, a lot of users now have to make necessary changes to improve their security.
More over, as an informed user, you should avoid exchanges like this, which jeopardised the security of their own users.
Now, if you are an existing Bitmex user, here are a few things you need to do:
Improve your security:
- Change your Bitmex password 🚨
- Withdraw all funds from Bitmex 👋🏻
- Better use a Password manager like Dashlane to use a different password for all the websites that you use. 👨🏻💻
- Change your email address, as your Bitmex registered email address is now public. You should consider using a completely different Email address for your crypto activities. 📧
- Enable 2 factor authentication 📱
Use an alternate exchange:
You should close your Bitmex account and instead use an alternate margin exchange. This would ensure you don't stick to a company which is making a continuous mistake.
Here are a few that you could use:
- Deribit - ✅The most popular Bitmex alternative
- Binance - 🚀Yes, the worlds biggest exchange also offers margin trading.
Even if you are a beginner or an advanced user dealing in cryptocurrency, you need to continously implementing latest cyber-security tricks to hardedning your privacy and security.
It is heart wrenching to see how a big exchange like Bitmex screwed up the online privacy of their existing users.
But, if we have learned anything from the past, that is to never trust eschanges and never use an exchnages as a wallet.
This situation is not as bad as past hacks of exchanges, but if you are one of those users whose email address is out in the public world (Yeah, its being sold on Darknet as well), you may be losing your sleep. However, instead of worrying, you should start taking actions and improve your security.
