🖥️ Browser Extension Allegedly Steal 600 ZEC from user

A Twitter user and software architect has warned cryptocurrency holders against a Chrome extension for Ledger crypto wallets that allegedly contains malware.

The official Ledger Support Twitter handle confirmed the detection of the extension malware on Jan. 2, 2020.

Here are some safe practices to mitigate risks of malwares:

Use only a wallet vendor's proprietary software
Verify the checksum of a download against one provided by the developer
Have a dedicated machine (or virtual machine) for crypto activities.

📝 Poloniex denies Password Leak, but resets user account password

Poloniex has enforced a password reset on users whose email addresses and passwords were leaked on Twitter.

Earlier this week they emailed a small group of its users in response to a tweet claiming to contain a list of leaked email addresses and passwords.

Poloniex assures users that they do not store passwords in plain text but as salted bcrypt hashes.

☔ South Korea Won't Tax Cryptocurrency Profits, For Now

According to a recent announcement from Korea's Ministry of Finance and Strategy, crypto trading profits cannot be taxed under the current laws.

We previously covered the news that Bithumb has been hit with a hefty tax bill of 80.3 billion won (~$69.5 million) from the government.

As it stands, digital currencies currently have no legal status in the country.

In order to tax digital currencies, the country needs to first clarify various issues on digital currencies such as definition, legality, categorization of crypto profits and others.
