It seems that exchanges are getting hacked every other month. That's why I'm an advocate of keeping your coins in your wallet. As the old saying goes, "if the coin isn't in your wallet, it isn't your coin."
Moreover, if you want to buy bitcoin anonymously, then P2P (peer 2 peer) exchanges are up to your alley.
When you trade on P2P exchanges, you would move the bitcoin into your own private wallet. Gotta keep it nice and safe!
